• Jess - Amazon 18th May 2010 It's a delight in every way, to use this DVD course!
  The menu is easy to navigate and topics are grouped into useful lessons. You could follow it just like a course. It can't compete with learning in a class and especially with the Deaf community members themselves. But, I can't imagine how you could get any closer to acquiring all the groundwork with this DVD pack. Wonderful if, like me, you are having to self-teach as best as possible, as no college course is available. Or, you need to refresh ahead of Level 3 (lucky ol' you if so!).
  
  What a beautiful language British Sign Language is.
  I'm trying to find some fault with this but can't, truly. I even find Sonia herself a plus. I enjoy watching her sign. She comes over as relaxed and approachable. Her handshapes are clear but not unnaturally stiff. It has voice over, subtitles, tests and short stories, all study categories and vocabulary you need for a higher level of everyday BSL .
  Love it! Even has discreet background sound, which I appreciate as a hearing person.

Jess - 12th Oct 2009 "I have Hazel Lyth's DVD and I do like it very much. But this one has heaps more to offer (vocabulary, phrases & tests) and the handshapes and filming are much clearer. It is more expensive but you get much more proportionately. The price held me back but after taking the plung and treating myself I JUST HOPING SONIA HOLLIS DOES A LEVEL TWO NOW! Well done. Fabulous DVD course. The best of my whole bunch! [and I have LOTS of BSL resources] "

March 2010 Hi Sonia, I am the chair of the Cambridge Deaf Association and I think that your DVD is brilliant. I do hope you make a stage 2 version. I have lent my copy to someone teaching a group of stage one and I would like another copy of the DVD

N Powell - 8th Sept 2009 "I have recently bought this as I am due to start Level 1 BSL along with a friend of mine. I have looked at lots of other DVD's out there and was very surprised to see the amount of content in this set...it seems to go over and beyond the Level 1 course so there is scope for further learning. Knowing that the presenter is an Interpreter themselves I had reassurance that they knew what they were talking about!
There is no sound on the DVD which I was pleased about because it enabled me to really focus on the signs and phrases being being made and encouraged me to really concentrate on the recap sessions. Totally addictive! "

It covers so many topics as well as an extensive range of vocabulary, in a no nonsense, practical way. As a complete beginner, it took me through and incorporated different sections of practise material before leading onto the next topic,to make sure that I could both produce and receive information in BSL I am sure my progress to the 2nd level in BSL will benefit because of this.
